5 Best Offline WordPress Editors For Your Blog

Even with a good connection, with an excellent connection, when composing a WordPress post, it’s easy to trip over your own edits when backspace/delete, insert, cp,,pm functions whic hap0pen instantaneously on a local machine can tqake a while while waiting for the edit happe.on the remote server and refreshes in the New/Edit post windows in WordPress. If you’re like me, which is to say immature and impatient, you’re editing a page which doesn’t even reflect current data. It’s easy, then, to be deleting data which has already been deleted on the server, but which is still visible on your client machine. This creates a frustrating queue of commands which require – in user terms - a long wait to resolve while you’re ready to compose the next phrase.

Hence – an offline editor makes sense. How that works with one’s theme and layout – a slightly more complicated question. But at least one can get copy formatted for insertion into the WP Post Editor more quickly offline.

Word processors – MS Word, OpenOffice, of course can save files as html. But a dedicated offline blogging tool might be easier to fine-tune for a particular blog theme. In the course of looking, I found this outstanding post 5 Best Offline WordPress Editor For Your Blog.

And – under the heading of finding treasure while searching for everyday tools, I found the post on EdwardKhoo.com. This is an outstanding blog – lots of helpful how-to posts about irritating problems not otherwise widely addressed.

Blog Design Studio has great explanations (e.g. What is this NoFollow thing all about! – you won’t find a more concise explanation anywhere); free WP themes, some outstanding WP tutorials (particularly about security issues specific to WordPress, an often-ignored subject), and, not least, an impressive portfolio of their own work. One of those was the redesign of BloggingTips.com:

BloggingTips is – as we’ve said earlier – worth reading regularly on its own terms. But look carefully at the design. To my eye, the folks at BlogDesignStudio did several things that should have been impossible to do in the same space:

lots of content and subdivision by category, and other taxonomies of content type;
usable navigation
Without feeling cramped

WeFunction.com – grossly understated domain name

Noupe.com may have a bug. If it does, the bug is understatement. For instance, 40 Exceptional “CMS Enabling” WordPress Plugins is about 40 exceptional WordPress plugins, and many of them do, in fact, make WordPress a better CMS. ¹ But these plugins aren’t limited to CMS use – some of them just are meta-WordPress plugins – that radically increase functionality and control, like User Access Manager (lets admins set up private sections of WP blogs – which opens up all sorts of possibilities – WordPress as collaborative workspace; WordPress as subscriber-only information source; I”m guessing other people have come up with other uses for this plugin, by Alexander Schneider.

“CMS” in this context means “content management system;” idiomatically in the World of WordPress it means, I think, extends WordPress functionality substantially beyond the normal “reverse chronological journal”which is the core of “blogging.”
